Last week I was at Invest Fest. Invest Fest gets some good reviews and some bad reviews. There are people that love it and get massive value from it. There are some people who think its over hyped and that its not worth the money.

I have learned that bad reviews come with doing business. You can't please everyone. It's impossible to please everyone. There are people reading this who don't like In N Out yet they have a line out the drive thru.

The issue is that as a culture, a culture that hasn't really seen black folks build something, we think that bad reviews mean bad business.

Bad reviews can mean a lot of things. They can come from a hater. They can come from someone who is jealous. They can come from someone who thinks they should be in that spot. But the most common is black folks who doubt what black folks can do so when they see black folks do something they think they cheated or did something wrong.

The problem is that people see the bad review and then think the entire business is bad. Then we kill the business. This is a toxic culture that destroys black wealth. We are often our own worst enemy. We destroy more black businesses than racism ever did.

This year, I went to Invest Fest as an attendee. I brought my wife and my son. I had a blast. My four year old son had a blast. My wife, who doesn't even like Atlanta, had a positive opinion on Atlanta and she finally realized why I love it.

What makes something good or bad is your personal experience. Don't let folks who hate everything ruin what could be beneficial for you. As a culture we have to stop letting haters and naysayers dictate the narrative.

I personally love what EYL is doing. It is what I set out to do with TC in the very beginning. That is why I will always support it. Its not about me getting the shine, its about he culture shifting. And that is what they are doing. If you don't see the value in that, despite their growing pains, you just don't want to win.
